Italian Christmas Cookies

Ingredients :

1 cup

White sugar

1-3/4 cup

Butter (not margarine)

1

Egg

1 Teaspoon baking powder
1 Teaspoon vanilla
3-1/4 Cups flour

Instructions :

Divide dough into 2 logs
Wrap and chill well.
Cut thin slices and bake in 300° oven for 15 minutes. Sprinkle with powdered sugar. Alternatives This simple recipe was the base for many variations. Nunny would sprinkle candied sugar onto the cookies before baking or ice the cooled cookies with bright colored icing to give a Christmas Ball effect.
