History blocks TTD gold plan
Hyderabad Sept. 25:
The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams project to gold plate the interiors of Ananda Nilayam will be finalised after consulting Agama pundits and archaeologists to ensure that it does not affect the historical inscriptions and paintings on the walls. “We are in no hurry to complete the project as it involves several aspects like conserving historical and archaeological inscriptions and records on these walls, apart from huge financial resources,” Mr Adikeshavulu Naidu, the TTD chairman, said on Thursday. The gold required for the project would be raised from devotees, he said. “Devotees can offer the gold either through the hundi or by handing it over personally to the temple staff,” Mr Naidu said. He said the fourth phase of Kalyanamasthu, the mass marriage programme of the TTD, will be held across the state on November 2.
“The muhurtham is fixed between 10.55 am and 11.10 am on November 2, which would be Kartika Suddha Panchami with Moola star and Dhanurlagnam,” he said. The TTD will conduct free marriages in TTD kalyana mandapams, temples and open grounds in all Assembly constituencies. Newly-married couples will be presented with a pair of gold mangalsutras, two silver toe rings, new clothes and ornaments besides a book explaining the significance of Hindu marriages. Interested couples should fill in the application form and affidavit available in TTD kalyana mandapams, TTD information offices, RDO, MDO and other government offices. The couples should also get a no-objection certificate from their parents, and submit them before October 21.
