Foreign link revealed
Hyderabad Sept. 25:
Sleuths of the city task force busted on Wednesday, an inter-state fake educational certificates racket having international links. Police apprehended eight persons including two Sudanese nationals and seized 500 fake certificates that were to be dispatched to various buyers including some foreign nationals. Police suspects that some employees of certain universities in the north are also involved.
According to the deputy commissioner of police (task force), Mr B. Kamalasan Reddy, this is the biggest fake certificate racket the task force has ever busted. He said, “the gang has so far sold nearly 400 certificates and we seized 500 more fake certificates. Some of the prospective customers are from East African countries like Sudan, Ethiopia, Yemen and Somalia.”
More then 60 per cent of the certificates were sold to foreign nationals and the certificates were used to get jobs in European countries, Mr Reddy said. The gang made Rs 1 crore from fake certificates, the police claimed. Most of the certificates were sold for an amount ranging between Rs 10,000 and 70,000. Mohd. Tausif Raza, the kingpin of the gang, was the in-charge of a study centre at Moghal college in Mehdipatnam. The two Sudanese involved in this racket have been residing in Hyderabad for the past four years with expired visas. They acted as brokers to lure students into buying these documents. |
