Indian software experts reluctant to visit US, says new CMC chief

Mumbai, Oct 18:Outsourcing of software professionals by leading technology companies in India, has been affected partially due to the September 11 terror attack on the US cities, CMC's new Chairman S Ramadorai, said here today.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of TCS-CMC's press conference here today, Mr Ramadorai said, after the September 11, incident, software experts are reluctant to go on assignments in the United States. The anthrax scare has further heightened their fears, as people do not want to take risk, he said. "Prior to September 11, outsourcing by India companies was more aggressive, but post-September 11 has seen a tremendous slowdown in it," Mr Ramadorai said.

According to him, unless and until, the situation improves in and outside the US, the outsourcing is likely to remain affected. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) which took over the government-owned CMC Ltd. yesterday, is a division of Tata Sons Ltd. The company is Asia's largest global software services and consulting company, having over 18,000 professionals, working at 88 branches in 23 countries across five continents, with over 800 global clients. TCS which also outsources software experts in the US as well as other countries, is facing difficulties due to the recent terrorist activities, he added.
