India IT Center opens in Singapore

Singapore, Oct 9: An India-Singapore Technology Expo (ISTEX-2001) opened here today as part of the ambitious programme launched by Singapore to become a dynamic and vibrant global infocom capital and the global hub in Asia for the digital economy.

Inaugurating the Expo, Information Technology and Communications Minister Pramod Mahajan said this was an attempt to bridge the gap between the production of technocrats and the usage of technologists. ''India is a nation of technologists while Singapore is a major user of technologies and technocrats,'' he said. Though many international events were cancelled following the Black Tuesday incident in Washington, Mr Mahajan said he did not want to cancel this event as it was one of the best ways to fight terrorism.
